Benefits of a Direct Reply | Company Site

YES! After hours of scrolling through job listings on LinkedIn and Indeed, you’ve found an exciting opportunity to apply for. You now have two options: apply on the job search site or directly on the company site. Job search sites like LinkedIn, Indeed and ZipRecruiter play a part in finding you the opportunity but applying directly to the company career site will be your best bet to seize it! If you are interested in working for a company, you can find tons of information about them using other sites, but when it comes to the application, do it directly. Exploring jobs is not limited to the big search sites. If you know you like a company, check them out on their own site because they list their own jobs too!

You may have an idea of a few companies you are interested in working for. Go directly to the company website and click on careers or google “Company Name Careers” and it will bring you straight to their career page. Once you are on the career page, you can filter results to job title, location and more depending on the size of the company and what is listed. This is the company’s site, so all the information you’d need to know about the company, role, responsibilities and more will be found there. Review the job and if you think it fits you, APPLY! Here is an example: I want to work for Facebook. I got a notification from LinkedIn that Facebook has listed a job for a Media Strategist, and I check it out. LinkedIn lets me apply using my profile or I can click the link to go to Facebook’s direct listing. Click to go on the direct listing and BOOM. The webpage loads on to facebook.com/careers and I see the role, responsibilities and qualifications to becoming a Facebook Media Strategist. Now, I click Apply and start on my application.

What are the benefits?

You’re probably wondering what is the difference between sending my application from a job search site or the company site. Well, there are a few benefits a direct application can give you.

1. You are definitely in the company’s system

2. You know you did the right application

3. You can check on the status of your application

The best benefit is knowing you are in the company’s system. If you apply through another site, how will you know if they ever received it? Don’t be oblivious when you can be confident that they received it!

Next pro is you will be sure you did the correct application. We all know that technology fails us sometimes. For example, the link to the application from a third-party job search site might be for a different opportunity or be missing important components of the application. Always go to the primary source, that way you will give them everything they need to consider you for the job.

Another fantastic tool of direct application is you get to check up on it! When you apply directly, many company career application portals will allow you to come back at any time to check the status of your application. You can ensure it has been received, see if it’s in review and more.

Don’t be afraid to get specific in your job search!
